SScene : anything is possible Best night : Mixed Sundays.

To begin with, this club has the outdated charm of a cabaret during the Occupation. Pretty cool. The clientele is also often strange ( and therefore exciting ) Worth checking-out is the Black-White-Beur (French-born Arab) Tea Dance on Sundays after 7 p.m with raï (re-mixed Algerian music), R&B and dance music (cover 10 Euros with a drink). The best tea dance since 10 years. Always crowded. The only place in paris to see fabulous arabs and blacks boys.

BBB, THE PARTY : THE CRITICS ARE RAVING ABOUT

The most popular spot for local gays of colour and their admirers.
BBB draws a packed house every sunday.

Arab and North African gays complain that in addition to facing homophobia in their own ethnic communities, gay Paris has remained mostly closed to them. Many report being refused entry to popular night clubs and bars. But exclusion has also spawned a burgeoning alternative scene which provides space for those left out and something different for others weary of more traditional, tried-and-trusted offerings. The most popular spot for local gays of colours and their admirers is the weekly BLACK BLANC BEUR tea dance at the LOCO'S Club (90 bld de clichy - 75018 Paris). A struggling monthly night when started just 10 years ago by journalist Fouad Zeraoui, BBB now draws a packed house every Sunday (7pm-0:30am). " I didn't like techno music or backroom, says Zeraoui, so I had no place to go ". BBB, he says, catered to gays and lesbians who didn't quite fit the image of le chic gay parisien. White T-shirt clad muscle men and sleek and slender toy boys still abound at BBB, but so do less fashionably conformist men and women you would not see strolling through the Marais. Instead of Europop and house blaring through the speakers, here late 20-somethings and more senior clubbers bop to a mix of Middle Eastern, salsa, techno-rai and hip hop. Recent performers at the attitude-free night have included celebrated rai singer Chaba Fadela and world music phenomenon Natacha Atlas. Revellers will get a taste of BBB when the group Kelma takes the street at the Pride march. KELMA (Arabic for "word") is Paris main gay organisation for Beurs (second-generation immigrants of North-African origin), set up in 1997 to break the taboo of homosexuality in Islamic culture. It's techno-rai music infused float was a hit last year but this year Kelma plans to shift gear and capitalise on the rise of hip hop. A sure sign of the group's influence is that more local safe sex flyers are being translated into Arabic.
